Kimberley - The condition of the Northern Cape Premier Hazel Jenkins, who collapsed earlier this morning while delivering her State of the Province Address, is said to be stable.

Jenkins collapsed while speaking at the podium at the Christian Revival Church. She was transported to the Kimberley Hospital in an ambulance.

Briefing the media at the hospital, Director General in the Office of the Premier Justice Bekebeke said the premier's condition was stable.

"Her condition remains stable and she is being monitored on an on-going basis by a team of medical personnel," he said, adding that Jenkins was so far responding well to treatment.

Bekebeke said doctors were still conducting tests to establish what led to the premier's collapse.

It is not yet known when she will be discharged from hospital.

The Office of the Premier said a new date for the official opening of the legislature would be announced in due course.

Bekebeke said they would continue to report on her progress as soon as doctors were done with tests.
