Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on Wednesday paid a visit to schools in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

Motlanthe, who was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Basic Education, the Premier of the Eastern Cape Province and the MEC for Education visited Endulini Junior Secondary School and Lutshaya High School.

The officials used the time to interact with learners from Grade R to 9 as well as school management and the school governing body as part of an intervention to respond to the learners' challenges at the schools.

The visit, according to Motlanthe's office, emanates from a previous interaction by the Deputy President with learners, some of whom were from this area.

Eastern Cape Education has been placed under the microscope by the national department and President Jacob Zuma as they attempt to reform the provincial department's finances, planning and human resource management.
