Pretoria - The Hawks in Mpumalanga have arrested a 25-year-old mother and two other women for allegedly being involved in the sale of a one-year-old child in Nelspruit.

Nomasonto Angel Khoza allegedly sold her biological daughter to a 45-year-old woman for R5 000 on Tuesday.

“The child was found in Springs, Gauteng and the mother, as well as Nomthandazo Nkuna (18), who assisted in the transaction, appeared before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday,” Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said on Thursday.

They were remanded in custody until 21 December 2015 when they will make a formal bid for bail.

The buyer of the child will appear before the same court on Thursday, facing charges of human trafficking. - SAnews.gov.za
