The South African Police Service (SAPS) has urged South Africans to observe at least a moment of silence on Sunday morning in honour of those police officers who died in the line of duty.
“Following Cabinet’s clarion call to recognise and celebrate the lives of our heroes and heroines, we want to urge all in South Africa to observe at least a moment of silence on Sunday morning. We also call on all to observe a moment of silence during religious ceremonies,” SAPS spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said.
This will form part of the annual Commemoration Day ceremony which will be held in honour of the 29 members who lost their lives in the line of duty between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.
The annual commemorative ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Union Buildings, where families, friends and colleagues of the deceased members, as well as the leadership of the SAPS will lay wreaths as they pay a special tribute to the fallen heroes and heroines.
All flags at the 1146 police stations nationwide, will fly at half-mast from Friday until Sunday.
