Pretoria – More than 600 military veterans from across the country are expected to converge in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, this weekend to launch the new umbrella association for military veterans.

The Department of Military Veterans’ (DMV) Director General Tsepe Motumi said the veterans would also deliberate on the constitution for the umbrella association.

The umbrella body is aimed at ensuring accelerated delivery of benefits outlined in the Military Veterans Act to military veterans and their dependents, to enhance the development of a common and shared vision amongst military veterans and other stakeholders as well as play an important role in enhancing social cohesion, reconciliation and nation building.

Also to be discussed at the conference will be the experiences, achievements and challenges that faced the outgoing SANMVA.

Motumi said the conference will be attended by members from MKMVA, APLAMVA, AZAMLA and former TBVC states MVAs and other military formations.

“As part of preparations for the conference, the DMV has over the past two months held extensive consultative meetings with all military veterans’ formations,” he said on Friday in Pretoria.

The conference, which President Jacob Zuma is expected to address, will be held under theme: Uniting Military Veterans for access to benefits. – SAnews.gov.za
