Metrorail apologises for train delays

Pretoria - Gauteng Metrorail has apologised to all the fans who were onboard the two trains that experienced power failures last night after the match between Bafana and Uruguay.

Gauteng Metrorail experienced power failures on its networks when the last two trains destined for Johannesburg from Pretoria reached the Pinedene Section and were unable to proceed further.

Train 2252 and 2254 were scheduled to arrive at Johannesburg at 00:19 and 1:36 respectively.

Unfortunately due to power failure these two trains arrived at Johannesburg Park Station a few hours later. The power failure was experienced at 23:59.

Diesel locomotives were then dispatched to go and haul the trains out of a dead section (a powerless section).

Unfortunately when trains are pushed by diesel locomotive they cannot be driven at normal speeds as they would when electrically powered.

The train was then hauled to Johannesburg from 02:01 and it arrived in Johannesburg an hour later, at exactly 03:10. The cause to the power failure is still being investigated.
