Pretoria - The Presidency says the report by Sunday Times, quoting unnamed sources claiming the possibility of two Deputy Presidents of the Republic, is incorrect.

The high office on Monday issued a statement citing an excerpt from the Constitution, which states the following regarding the Deputy President of the country:

Section 91. (1); “The Cabinet consists of the President, as head of the Cabinet, a Deputy President and Ministers.

(2) The President appoints the Deputy President and Ministers, assigns their powers and functions, and may dismiss them.

(3) The President -

(a) must select the Deputy President from among the members of the National Assembly’’.

“The Constitution therefore states unequivocally that the Republic of South Africa shall have one Deputy President only,” said the Presidency. – SAnews.gov.za
