Monday, October 5, 2009

Johannesburg - Gauteng MEC for Education, Barbara Creecy, is to open the refurbished Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

The R350 million science and education centre, in Newtown, is aimed at stimulating interest in mathematics, science, engineering and technology, among learners.

The centre was originally opened in 2004 as a flagship science centre in the province.

The new Sci-Bono centre which had generally focused on science exhibitions will now boast classrooms, laboratories, an ICT training centre and a state of the art auditorium.

It will be one of the few science centres in the country to not just focus on exhibitions but also classroom based education.

The opening of the centre will also welcome a first of its kind exhibition if three life sized African Dinosaurs.
