Pretoria - The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, has applauded the swift reaction of the South African Police Service (SAPS) crime intelligence unit in the botched Tile Africa robbery in Ekurhuleni.

During the robbery, a shoot-out ensued between the would-be robbers and the law enforcement officers, resulting in the death of a member of the SAPS crime intelligence unit.

Two members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) sustained injuries, three suspects were fatally shot and two others sustained injuries.

The two wounded suspects are under police guard in hospital.

"This is an indication to criminals that we are everywhere and we will pounce when you least expect it. Those that were involved will face the wrath of law," said Mazibuko.

Mazibuko sent her condolences to the bereaved family of the SAPS crime intelligence unit, who died during the shootout. – SAnews.gov.za
