Mafikeng - Eskom has invested R10.85 billion in electricity infrastructure for the next five years in the North West, the province's Premier Thandi Modise announced on Friday.
Speaking during her State of the Province address in Mafikeng, Modise said the investment was among the initiatives aimed at addressing the quality and quantity of electric energy that residents received.
"In this financial year, 10 162 new electricity connections will be made," she noted.
These connections were just the start, with many more connections still needed, Modise acknowledged.
Other plans outlined by Modise include the launch of the Kgora Training Centre aimed at giving aspirant and emerging farmers practical experience; as well as the establishment of a fund for critical services - water, water purification and sanitation.
The Bursary Scheme, which already has 208 bursary holders, will see an intake of 37 more. This year's focus will be on scarce skills such as accounting and finance, engineering and medicine.
