Masses continue to descend on Houghton home

Johannesburg – People from across the country, neighbours and children continue to arrive at the corner of 4th and 12th Avenue in Houghton, Johannesburg the home of late former President Nelson Mandela this morning.

There are mixed emotions as candles burn on the lawn and people pay their last respects.

Some people are sobbing and mourning the loss of the struggle icon, while others are celebrating the outstanding life of the man.

Crowds began gathering last night as news of his departure spread. Some sang struggle songs, while others sang the National Anthem.

Madiba died peacefully with his family by his bedside at 8:50 pm on Thursday night.

Due to a heavy influx of people, some of the streets around his home remained closed most of Thursday night and Friday morning. – SAnews.gov.za
