Johannesburg –As crowds continued to fill up the stadium, the City of Joburg said things were proceeding smoothly at the FNB Stadium, ahead of former President Nelson Mandela’s Memorial Service.
People were able to move from the train and bus stations into the stadium.
City of Joburg spokesman Ntathisi Modingoane said they had not received any challenges relating to transport and other logistics.
“Things are going smoothly. People must go to listed pick up points.
“The Rea Vaya normal service is suspended for today so people must not wait for the bus at their stations,” he said on Tuesday.
SAnews reporters, who mingled with the crowds inside the stadium, found that people were able to access facilities like toilets and food stalls without difficulty.
“Can I have chicken strips and chips please? No, make that a cheese burger and chips. Do you have coffee?” asked one customer.
Most of them rushed to the food stalls to get breakfast.
As early as 7:45am, traders at food stalls, situated around the stadium, had already started serving warm breakfasts to customers who came to the stadium with their children.
Food ranged from hotdogs, burgers and chips to hot and cold beverages.
