Limpopo launches contractors' one-stop shop

Polokwane - The Limpopo Construction Contact Centre will be officially opened on Tuesday to support initiatives that seek to develop local contractors and construction services.

The centre, which is located in the department of public works' head office in Polokwane, is one of several being established nationwide by the Construction Industry Development Board in partnership with national and provincial departments of public works.

"As construction hubs, the centres also facilitate business-to-business linkages and offer marketing and partnership opportunities to construction companies," said provincial public works spokesperson," Molebatsi Masedi.

Services offered at the centres include the registration of contractors with the Construction Industry Development Board so that they may apply for state contracts.

The centres also provides training facilities for contractors and industry stakeholders, free internet and email access, as well as access to video conferencing facilities.

Contractors may also get information and advice relating to business and contractor development, best practice, construction methods and technologies.

"The centres will also facilitate implementation of the National Contractor Development Programme (NCDP) aimed at growing the industry`s contracting and contactor capacity for improved infrastructure delivery," said Masedi.

The NCDP aims to streamline contractor development initiatives and promote better access to financing for contractors.-
