Limpopo - The Limpopo Local Government and Housing in partnership with Bitline Property Developers will build a brand new home for the family of 800m track world champion Caster Semenya.

Making the announcement on Saturday, Limpopo MEC for Local Government and Housing Ntate Soviet Lekganyane said this is done in recognition of her historic win at the recent World Athletic Championship in the context of August being the Women's Month.

"The people of Limpopo are very proud of Caster Semenya's achievements. As we congratulate and celebrate with her, our mandate as a department dictates that we must ensure that she and her family are properly housed.

"Hence our decision to support Bitline Developers in building them a home. We hope Semenya will continue to shine and inspire other young women to greatness," MEC Lekganyane said

Since the dawn of democracy, Limpopo has contributed more than 300 000 homes to the over 2.7 million built by the government since 1994. In Limpopo, over 1.2 million people live in homes built by government.

MEC Lekganyane said his department is currently implementing various programmes geared at accelerating the pace of housing delivery by developing Integrated and Sustainable Human Settlements.
