Polokwane - A police constable attached to Public Order Police in Lephalale allegedly shot and killed his 27-year-old girlfriend last night
Thirty-year-old police constable Mmakolobe Patrick Molekoa of Nelly village in Bakenburg was also found shot and his official firearm was found next to his body.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said it was alleged that the gruesome incident occurred at around 10pm in Onverwaght at a rented room.
The motive for the shooting has not yet been established. Cases of murder and inquest have been opened by the Lephalale police for further police investigations.
His girlfriend, Paulina Leeto Maesela of Ga Mphahlele outside Lebowakgomo, was employed at EXXARO mine in Lephalale.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Simon Mpembe, has strongly condemned the incident.
He reiterated the call by the National Commissioner General Riah Phiyega that police officials with marital or relationship problems should seek assistance from the SAPS's Employee Health and Wellness offices that comprise chaplains, social workers and psychologists.
Meanwhile, police in Namakgale have recovered the body of a 54-year-old man in the bushes at Mashishimale. The victim, Donovan Marais, was reported missing in Pretoria North last Wednesday.
His decomposed body was discovered on Monday at about 12:30. Two half empty bottles of whiskey were found next to his body and R230 was found pinned on a tree.
On Saturday, a KIA Sportage sedan car was seen by a passer-by in the bushes at Mashishimale and alerted the police. When police arrived at the scene, the vehicle's keys were in the ignition. A laptop, clothing and a box of ammunition were found on the car seat.
Enquiries about the car were made and it was established that the car belonged to Marais who had been reported missing.
An intensive search by police from Namakgale and Makhado K9 units was launched on Sunday late afternoon and Monday.
The cause of death has not yet been established. An inquest docket has been opened by the Namakgale police for further police investigations.
Police said a post mortem would be conducted soon to determine the cause of death. -SAnews.gov.za
