Learners to sit for ANAs in less than two weeks

Thursday, September 4, 2014

Pretoria – The Department of Basic Education will from 16 to 19 September 2014 conduct the fourth Annual National Assessments (ANA) to track progress of learning outcomes among learners in earlier grades.

The ANAs are conducted by the Department of Basic Education, in Grades 1 - 6 and 9 in all public schools and independent schools that qualify for a government subsidy.

The assessments generate standardised evidence to monitor the success of various government interventions to improve literacy and numeracy among learners.

They also enable teachers to identify areas that require additional support.

“This year, the Department of Basic Education will also pilot the assessment of a sample of learners in Grades 7 and 8 and the decision on this assessment will be taken in 2015,” Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe.

He was addressing media at a post-Cabinet briefing in Cape Town on Thursday.

Cabinet encourages parents and guardians to support their children and to ensure that the results are used to address any development areas.
