Labour visits Rheinmetall Denel

The Department of Labour’s Deputy Minister, Inkosi Phathekile Holomisa, is today leading a delegation to visit the Somerset West Denel plant, where eight people died following an explosion on Monday. 

The cause of the accident at the Denel munitions depot has not yet been established. 

Rheinmetall Denel Munition, which specialises in the development, design and manufacture of large and medium-calibre ammunition, is 51% owned by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH and 49% by Denel SOC Ltd. 

The factory produces explosives and propellants for civilian and military use in ammunition. 

“We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families,” Holomisa said.

The Deputy Minister is accompanied by the Inspector General, Agnes Moiloa, Chief Inspector Tibor Szana, Provincial Chief Inspector for the Western Cape, David Esau as well as the Chief Communication Officer, Teboho Thejane. – SAnews.gov.za
