Pretoria – Officials in KwaZulu-Natal are on a mission to improve service delivery and revive moral regeneration.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu and all the MECs, in partnership with the uMgungundlovu district mayors, will on Wednesday, 27 November, hold the Cabinet Operation Sukuma Sakhe event in uMshwathi Municipality. The event is aimed at accelerating service delivery and stamping out social ills in uMgungundlovu District.

Finance MEC Ina Cronjé will, in her capacity as uMgungundlovu District Political Champion, host the event, which will be led by Mchunu. The provincial government is expected to address service delivery issues in line with government's target to eradicate poverty, unemployment and inequality.

UMgungundlovu has been in the spotlight recently when a number of cases, including drug abuse, rape and murder, were reported.

“Cronjé declared war on social ills in the district earlier in the year in a quest to find lasting solution to the challenges. The premier, MECs, mayors and community members will stage a Walk against Gender-Based Violence and Substance Abuse to sensitise residents in the area of the effects of abuse against women and children,” said Cronjé’s office on Thursday.

“Government has structured programmes which need to get deep to the level of the people we are serving. This is at ward level, translating to all households in the district. We humbly accept that we cannot achieve this alone, but need the community's hands in building this nation together,” said Cronjé.

The provincial government will also launch the 16-Days of Activism against Women and Children Abuse at this event. – SAnews.gov.za
