Pretoria- Drugs worth a street value of R280 000 and over R200 000 in cash were seized following a raid of a Shallcross house in KwaZulu-Natal, said Police.

The home was raided following a tip-off about a huge consignment of drugs on the premises. When members of the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team arrived, they found that the owner of the house-a known drug dealer- had fled prior to police arrival.

Upon the search of the house on Friday police recovered pure cocaine powder, 1000 pieces of rock cocaine as well as 600 packets of heroine. The estimated street value of the drugs is R280 000. Police also recovered over R200 000 in cash on the premise which was also seized as it is believed that the cash is from drug dealing.

Police have opened an enquiry for the seizure of drugs, which will be investigated.

Last month police seized over R5 million worth of drugs from the same premises. At the time the house-owner was arrested and is currently out on bail.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni thanked the community for contributing to the fight against the drug trade by blowing the whistle on illegal activities.

“This is a major boost for province and Chatsworth in particular and such operations will be on-going. We are responding to the call from the community to deal decisively with these drug dealers,” said Ngobeni.-SAnews.gov.za
