Pretoria - The KwaZulu-Natal under-17 team won the 2010 South African Football Association (SAFA) championship title after beating the Northern Cape 4-1 on penalties at Eldorado Park stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

SAFA spokesperson Morio Sanyane said the final was an exciting affair, with both teams having a go at each other, and numerous scoring chances not converted.

Neither of the two teams managed to find the back of the net and the match had to be decided on penalties.

The Northern Cape managed to score only one, thanks to Angelo van Rooi, while Charles Molelekane and Elroy Baardman missed their spot kicks.

KwaZulu-Natal won the title when Brendon Parusnath, Lizwi Dludla, Sizwe Mngadi and Dumisani Hadebe converted their spot kicks.

Earlier in the day, defending champions SASFA won bronze medals when they beat Western Cape 4-1.
