Pretoria - As part of Women's Day celebrations in the province, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize visited the Shayamoya day care centre in Kokstad before addressing a packed crowd at the Kokstad Oval Sports Centre for the main Women's day celebrations.

At Shayamoya, the Premier listened to concerns of the women in the communities, and he encouraged them to "continue taking a role in the community."

The premier presented the day care centre with 105 blankets.

"As we celebrate the mothers of our nation, let us all ask ourselves what our role is in the upliftment of our communities," said Mkhize in his keynote address at the sports centre.

He also encouraged men to get involved in the fight against domestic violence.

The Women's Day celebration came after a successful two-day sitting of the Women's Parliament in Kokstad.
