Keeping SA's roads safe this Easter

Monday, March 19, 2018

In the spirit of keeping motorists safe on the roads this Easter, Transport Minister Blade Nzimande will officially launch the 2018 Easter Road Safety Campaign in Heidelberg on Tuesday.

The launch is aimed at increasing driver awareness and reducing road accidents during the Easter period.

“It will take the form of an integrated law enforcement operation targeting all road users, especially long distance drivers.

“As part of the Easter Campaign launch, Minister Nzimande will address law enforcement officers and lead a joint law enforcement parade and operation,” the department said.

During the launch, health officials will provide screening services to drivers to raise awareness about the effects of lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure and sugar diabetes on driver fitness.

Additionally, the launch will include activation of halfway stations, a key intervention intended to assist tired drivers to rest after driving long distances.

Minister Nzimande will be joined by MECs of Transport, CEOs of transport entities, key transport stakeholders and law enforcement officers. – SAnews.gov.za
