The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has sent crash investigators to Limpopo to assist with the investigation of a bus accident that resulted in the death of 11 people, with 30 injured.

The accident happened on Monday on the N1 near Mookgopong, when a bus reportedly travelling from Zambia to Gauteng, overturned.

“It is alleged that the bus experienced a tyre burst after which the driver lost control and veered off the road,” RTMC said.

RTMC has committed to work with other authorities to investigate the cause of the crash.

RTMC has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

This accident follows two other deadly accidents that happened in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape in August.

Five people died in the KwaZulu-Natal accident when a bus travelling from Johannesburg to Empangeni overturned near Melmoth.

Twelve people suffered serious injuries while 15 sustained minor injuries.

In the Western Cape, 10 people died and 30 were injured when a bus overturned in the early hours of the morning outside Beaufort West. – SAnews.gov.za
