Investigation to be launched into PetroSA death

Mossel Bay - An investigation into the death of a worker at PetroSA's Mossel Bay gas-to-liquids refinery is to be launched.

According to a statement by the national oil company, the employee slipped and fell to his death while cleaning a vessel located within the GTL Refinery.

Efforts by emergency personnel to resuscitate the deceased were unsuccessful.

PetroSA Acting Vice-President of Operations Michael Nene said the company would launch an internal investigation into the incident. It has thus far been reported to the South African Police Service and the Department of Labour.

"We are deeply touched and saddened by this incident. The family will receive support during their bereavement and PetroSA will assist with funeral arrangements," said Mr Nene.

The company said it was helping the family with counselling and his colleagues had also been offered counselling
