Illegal strike halts Gautrain bus service

Pretoria - Gautrain buses are again not operating today, as the illegal strike by bus drivers continues.

Bombela Concession Company media liaison officer, Nano Gasenewe, said bus operations were brought to a halt on Tuesday following an illegal strike by bus drivers apparently in solidarity with an individual driver who had been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

Despite intense negotiations, which included management agreeing to recognise an entirely new union, Gasenewe said the strike has not been resolved.

She said the bus management company will now seek an urgent court interdict to compel the strikers to return to work.

"In the meantime, bus services remain suspended and therefore no Gautrain buses will be in operation today, Wednesday. The Gautrain sincerely apologises to customers for the disruption and inconvenience that this illegal strike has caused them.

"We continue to do all in our power to resolve the situation as quickly as possible," said Gasenewe.
