Human trafficking taken to the streets

Friday, December 10, 2010

Pretoria - A road show on human trafficking and gender based violence is to be held next week to raise public awareness around the issue.

The road show, which will take place in the Buffalo City municipality in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday, will target Mdantsane, Gampo, Zipunzane as well as taxi ranks and areas where sex workers are found.

"One of the primary objectives of the road show is to raise awareness to the public about human trafficking as well as to educate and inform them on issues such as gender based violence, in particular men who are most perpetrators of gender based violence," said Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) spokesperson, Javu Mabaloyi.

This announcement of the road show comes as the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign draws to an end today.

The CGE, the South African Police Service as well as other civil society organisations will take part in the road show.
