Pretoria - The Human Resource Development Council of South Africa (HRDCSA) today held its first meeting of its second term in Pretoria.

Chaired by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, the HRDCSA is a national, multi-tiered and multi-stakeholder advisory body. New council members were also introduced at the meeting.

Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande used the meeting to present recommendations from the Economic Development Department, the HRDC Technical Task Team on the Alignment of the Human Resource Development Strategy to the National Growth Path (NGP) as well as skills planning.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the Presidency said the council also signed off the work that was done by the Technical Task Team on the alignment of the HRDS to the NGP and accepted the recommendations as presented.

The Skills System Review Technical Task Team presented its work on the review of the Skills System in South Africa.

“After careful deliberations an extension of the mandate of the task team was granted for another three months with a report backdate of 5 December 2013, as more work needed to be done in this regard,” said the Presidency.

The meeting approved the formalisation of the Public Sector Skills Committee as a coordinating structure to ensure that public sector has the capacity to meet priorities of a developmental state.

“The Department of Public Services and Administration, through Minister Lindiwe Sisulu, also introduced the National School of Government, which will be responsible for education, training and development programmes in a uniform public service, as well as to develop a professional, responsive and capable public service driven by the imperative of a developmental state.”

The meeting also signed off on the HRDCSA Annual Report for the financial year 2012/2013.  - SAnews.gov.za
