Mafikeng - North West MEC for Human Settlements, Desbo Mohono, has used International Women's Day to reaffirm her department's commitment to providing housing for women.
Mohono on Monday reminded all South Africans that access to housing is a democratic and constitutional right for all citizens, including women.
She said her department is responsible for ensuring the progressive realization of this right, and will not rest until this right becomes a reality to all women of the province.
Mohono urged women to play an active role in the government's housing delivery programmes and monitor the quality of houses that are built in their communities.
"The department is using this year's International Women's Day to reaffirm its commitment to the right of all women to access housing and to avail opportunities for emerging women contractors," she said.
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women.
