Pretoria - The Higher Education South Africa (HESA) board has appointed Jeffrey Mabelebele as its new chief executive officer with immediate effect.

Mabelebele, who has been acting CEO of HESA since December 2011, has sound knowledge of public policy processes, including higher education policy.

Among others, he was director of operations and sector support at HESA from 2009.

The organisation has welcomed Mabelebele’s appointment hoping that he will reposition HESA as an authoritative voice of the sector on higher education matters in the country.

“Dr Mabelebele shares the board's vision of restoring confidence in HESA through transforming the delivery model to improve the quality of services to member institutions and promote the interests of the public university sector in South Africa.

“We wish him everything of the best during his tenure as CEO of HESA,” said HESA chairperson Professor Ahmed Bawa.
