Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs' 24-hour call centre will stay in operation during the festive season to fast track the issuing of identity documents for matriculants.

In the build-up to the release of the 2010 matric results, Home Affairs Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, instructed department officials to keep the call centre going in order to help those matrics who've submitted applications but had not yet received their IDs.

The 24-hour national call centre was established by the department in October this year to fast track the issuing of IDs to matriculants.

Since the establishment of the call centre, a number of matriculants have been assisted to obtain their IDs.

"This measure forms part of a broader drive by the department to provide excellent service to all citizens and to ensure that the objectives of the National Population Registration campaign, including the issuance of IDs to all 16-year-olds and above, are achieved.

All matriculants still waiting for their IDs are urged to urgently contact the call centre for assistance at the following contact numbers:

*
* Full names, surnames and an identity number as it appears on the birth certificate;
* Proof of registration for the 2010 matric examinations;
