Pretoria - Government is working hard to ensure that South Africans feel safe.
Outlining his plans to tackle South Africa's troublesome crime rate in his State of the Nation Address, President Jacob Zuma has identified hijacking, business and house robberies, as well as contact crimes such as murder, rape and assault, as top priorities.
Serious attention will be given to combating organised crime as well as crimes against women and children, said Zuma.
Among the state's immediate targets, is to ensure an increase in the number of policemen and women by 10 percent over the next three years said Zuma.
Zuma also emphasised the need for every South African to actively take part in and do more in fighting the scourge.
"We all have a role to play. Let us participate in community safety forums. Let us stop buying stolen goods. Let us always be ready to provide the police with information about criminal activity."
