Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Pretoria - Government has welcomed the signing of the wage settlement offer by 66 percent of unions as represented in the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC).

This move concludes the 2010/2011 round of wage negotiations.

The wage settlement offer provides for a salary increase of 7.5 percent and a housing allowance of R800 per month with effect from 1 July 2010.

On the signing of the offer, Minister for Public Service and Administration, Richard Baloyi welcomed the majority signature attained on Tuesday.

"Whilst an opportunity still exists for further signatories to the offer, the majority signature instructs us to implement the resolution.

"I have therefore instructed the Acting Director-General for the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) to commence with processing the payment immediately," he said.

Minister Baloyi further said: "the signing of the offer is a positive step that paves the way for us to continue to work collectively with labour in addressing other pressing matters on our ongoing negotiations."

Baloyi will give further information on this and other related matters later in the week.
