Govt saddened by loss of lives in WC bus crash

Pretoria - Government has conveyed its deepest condolences to the families and friends of commuters that were killed on Friday in the dreadful bus accident on the N1 near De Doorns, Western Cape. 

According to media reports, the bus crashed down an embankment in the Hex River Valley, injuring scores of passengers.

Acting Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) CEO, Phumla Williams, said this was an unfortunate incident and urged drivers to be vigilant on the road and obey all traffic laws.

“Vehicle safety inspections are important and should be conducted on a regular basis. Owners of public transport vehicles are particularly urged to comply with safety regulatory standards,” said Williams.

Government has also commended the speedy intervention of the emergency staff to the accident scene and wished all those injured a speedy recovery.  – SAnews.gov.za
