Govt meets media over Mandela coverage

Monday, February 27, 2012

Pretoria - Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane and senior government officials are this morning meeting with members of the media to discuss their coverage around former President Nelson Mandela.

The meeting, to be attended by senior editors from organised electronic and print media, will discuss how best to report - in the most responsible and sensitive way - on any issues related to Madiba.

"The purpose of the meeting is for government and the media to discuss and deliberate issues related to the coverage of former President Nelson Mandela," GCIS said on Sunday.

The meeting comes after the former statesman was admitted to an undisclosed hospital at the weekend for treatment of a long-standing abdominal complaint.

He was discharged on Sunday and is resting at his Houghton home.
