Pretoria - Government has called on members of the public, who will be marching against e-tolling, to exercise their right to protest within the boundaries of the law.
E-tolls are part of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).
"Government will closely monitor tomorrow's planned marches by Cosatu and members of the public. The law will take its course against anyone who violates the law," said Thabo Masebe, the spokesperson for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who is the chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on GFIP.
Cosatu has obtained permission to stage marches in Johannesburg and Pretoria on Friday.
However, Masebe said this did not change the fact that government has consulted and shared information on the GFIP project over a number of years and called for public comment.
He said legal permission came with an expectation of legal conduct, and government hoped that marchers will not infringe on the rights of others, damage property or cause harm to the country's reputation. - SAnews.gov.za
