Good start for Mosimane

Pretoria - Pitso "Jingles" Mosimane registered his first win as Bafana's new head coach when South Africa beat the Black Stars of Ghana 1-nil in an international friendly at FNB stadium on Wednesday night.

Although the Black Stars paraded a blend of a handful experienced players, Mosimane got off to a winning start.

The combination of Thanduyise Kuboni and veteran midfielder, Macbeth Sibaya frustrated the West African World Cup quarter-finals as they failed to trouble Bafana goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune throughout the first half.

A win against Ghana, which is rated 23 in the World and second in the African continent, is a major boost to Jingles and his players.

Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingson twice had to come off his line to block goal-bound efforts by Mphela before the Bafana livewire striker finally struck the back of the net four minutes before recess.

Katlego Mphela scored his 17th goal in the national team colours four minutes before half-time after he received a great pass from Everton most skilful player, Steven Pienaar.

At the half-time, Jingles replaced long serving Bafana skipper, Aaron Mokoena with Siyabonga Sangweni and later on replaced Siphiwe Tshabalala with Daine Klate.

The Ghanaians dominated during the second half, but they failed to get an equaliser as Bafana were tactically superior and well organised at the back.

This was the first match for both teams since the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Bafana used the match to prepare themselves for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier match against Niger next month.
