Pretoria - A Gauteng bus owner and his accomplice were arrested on Monday for bribing the head of the Delareyville Traffic Station.

The arrest followed an operation conducted by the North West Traffic Authorities in Delareyville on Sunday, where about 14 unroadworthy buses were discontinued and impounded.

According to a report, the arrested bus owner called the head of the station and offered him R60 000 to release his six buses on Sunday night.

The station head said the bus owner and his accomplice called him in the morning as they were waiting for him at the traffic station.

The two were arrested and an amount of R30 000 was found in their possession by police. They are expected to appear in the Delareyville Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of fraud and bribery.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi, has applauded the head of the Delareyville Traffic Station for his unwavering commitment and trust in fighting corruption. - SAnews.gov.za
