Pretoria - Three learners who died in a fire at the North West School for the Deaf on Monday will be laid to rest this weekend, says the provincial Department of Education and Sport Development.
The department said it had organised their funerals in partnership with the bereaved families.
Three teenage girls, aged 16, 17 and 18, were burnt to death and 23 others were injured when they jumped from a building at the school which caught fire in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police said the fire broke out at 1am at the girls' hostel.
The department’s MEC Maphefo Matsemela will be attending the funeral in Dr Kenneth Kaunda. Senior managers from the department will attend two other funerals in Mafikeng and Kuruman.
“Bulelwa Koni, 18, will be laid to rest on Saturday at Extension 24, Jouberton in Klerksdorp at 7am. Katlego Diseko, 16, will be laid to rest at her home in Ikopeleng village in Mahikeng on Saturday, [while] Emily Oageng, 22, will be buried at Campden in Kuruman on Sunday,” said the department.
