Pretoria - The soccer fan who found his way into the English team's change room shortly after the England - Algeria match, has been arrested and charged with trespassing.

Police arrested the 32-year-old man at the Bay Hotel in Cape Town on Sunday.

The man allegedly entered the English team's change room and told the players about his disappointment with their performance during their draw with Algeria on Friday night.

The police's National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) said police initiated an investigation immediately after the incident was reported.

CCTV footage was analysed and the suspect was identified and traced to his place of accommodation in Cape Town," NATJOINTS added.

The man appeared in court on Sunday and was released on R500 bail. He is expected to make another court appearance on Monday (21 June).

Police, FIFA and the Local Organising Committee met after the incident and took "tactical decisions" with regard to the deployment of security personnel to prevent a repeat of the incident, NATJOINTS said.
