Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs says it has issued the Ethiopian National Football Club, the Black Lions, with the necessary visas for travel to South Africa.

In a statement on Friday, the department said the team had initially submitted incomplete information required for their visa applications.

However, the department, together with the Diplomatic Embassy in Addis Ababa, assisted the team members to meet with the requirements, thus enabling the department to issue them with visas for travel to South Africa.

Following interaction between the department and the South African Football Association (Safa), the invitation letter to the Ethiopian Football Federation was issued on Wednesday to enable the team to travel to South Africa today.

"The Department of Home Affairs stands ready to join the people of our country in welcoming the Ethiopian National Team to South Africa this afternoon, ahead of their scheduled play against Bafana Bafana," it said.
