Pretoria - Eskom did not implement load shedding on Tuesday, as demand for electricity decreased.
The utility had earlier announced that it would implement stage one load shedding today.
“Eskom did not implement stage 1 load shedding at 10:00 today as the electricity demand has decreased significantly since the early warning notification was made this morning.
“Eskom would like to thank customers who heeded the call to reduce electricity usage. We urge customers to continue to use electricity sparingly,” said the power parastatal.
However, Eskom said the power system remains constrained and will remain so for the rest of the week.
“Any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to go into load shedding,” it said.
For customers in Cape Town, the situation remains the same. This after three mini substations had been vandalised, affecting industrial customers in the Blackheath area.
“As a result, customers in that area will have power outages for most of the day today. Eskom has been working on urgent repairs since the incident occurred early this morning. We ask communities to desist from vandalising Eskom property as it not only interrupts customers’ power supply but is also very dangerous and can lead to the loss of life,” said Eskom.
The power utility urged customers who have any information regarding this incident to contact Eskom’s Crime Line on 0800 11 27 22.
“Eskom calls on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.”
Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours. - SAnews.gov.za
