East London - A group of German youth will touch down in the Eastern Cape on Thursday as part of a Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) exchange programme.
Provincial department development manager, Zithulele Nkwali, said the group from Lower Saxony in Germany, will be exposed to South African culture and be taken to various landmarks in the province, including the Nelson Mandela Museum and the Nelson Mandela Youth and Heritage Centre.
"Both the local and German group will learn about South African art and heritage. They will also strengthen the social and economic relationship between the two countries," said Nkwali.
A total of 32 young people will be involved in the programme -- 16 from the Eastern Cape and 16 from Germany.
Siyabonga Tshemese, 20, from Ngxwavu Village near Cofimvaba, is part of the Eastern Cape group that will be participating.
"This is very exciting for me. I will be learning about my country and get to share my experiences as a young person with the visitors. I am sure we will all have a lot to learn from one another," said Siyabonga.
Zipho Mki, 20, the Eastern Cape group leader, said she will also get the opportunity to improve her leadership skills.
"I was selected because I'm always involved in team building tasks and debates at my school. This will be a great experience for me," said Zipho.
She said she can't wait for next year when the Eastern Cape's group visits Germany.
