Pretoria - A joint operation of the Hawks, police and the members of the Department of Health law enforcement unit has led to the arrest of two suspected drug manufacturers at a townhouse in Silver Lakes, east of Pretoria.

According to police, drugs and equipment to the value of an estimated R20 million were also confiscated on Wednesday night.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said a security guard, who noticed suspicious activity, alerted the police.

Ramaloko said this was the biggest steroids manufacturing lab they have ever discovered in the country.

"We arrested an Egyptian man and a South African man for packaging steroids. We believe that these suspects are not working alone. There's a supplier somewhere in the country."

Ramaloko said the suspects will appear in court soon on charges of fraud and the contravention of health and medical laws. – SAnews.gov.za
