Pretoria - Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa today paid a visit to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at a hospital in Cape Town, where he was recently readmitted, says the Presidency.

Archbishop Tutu's family recently announced that he had been readmitted to hospital following surgery.

The Presidency on Tuesday said Deputy President Ramaphosa has conveyed the best wishes of government and South Africans for the Archbishop’s speedy recovery.

“The Archbishop was in good spirits and was looking forward to returning home soon. Medical staff informed Deputy President Ramaphosa that Archbishop Tutu was responding well to treatment and spent most of his time resting,” said the Presidency.

The Deputy President said he was encouraged to see the Archbishop in high spirits, “sharing light moments with his family and friends. He was jovial as usual, engaging on subjects ranging from education to politics”.

Deputy President Ramaphosa also took part in a short prayer session with relatives and friends of the Archbishop, including his daughter Reverent Canon Mpho Tutu van Furth, son-in-law Mthunzi Gxashe, Reverend Keith de Vos, Reverentd Joe Tyler and African National Congress Western Cape Provincial Secretary Faiez Jacobs. - SAews.gov.za
