Pretoria - The remains of the bodies of the Denel employees who were killed when a United Nations compound was attacked by insurgents in Mogadishu, Somalia, on Wednesday, have been repatriated back into South Africa.

They will be flown to their families today.

The remains of the late Morne Lotter, 41, from Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo, will be cremated in George in the Southern Cape on Tuesday.

This will be followed by a memorial service in Oudtshoorn on Wednesday.

The family of the late Alan Simpson, 53, originally from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, has not yet finalised funeral arrangements.

The two Denel employees were working at a UN compound in Mogadishu where Denel Mechem provided camp maintenance services in support of the UN’s peace-keeping operations.

A third Denel employee, Isak Mohammed Osman, a Somali national, also died in the attack.

The remaining Denel employees in Somalia are now housed in the United Nations Office for Project Services’ facilities.
