Decision on mining charter welcomed

Thursday, September 14, 2017

The Ministry of Mineral Resources has welcomed the decision by the Judge President of the North Gauteng High Court on Thursday to have the review application on the mining charter heard by the full bench later this year.

“The decision follows the move by the Chamber of Mines which wanted to have the Charter reviewed before any implementation thereof could commence,” the Ministry of Mineral Resources said in a statement.

The Mistry said it approached the High Court to have the matter presided over by a full bench, as the matter is of such magnitude that it has both national and international implications.

“The Ministry looks forward to 13 and 14 December 2017 when the matter will finally be heard by the High Court.

“The Ministry is of the view that this matter should be resolved speedily as part of government’s efforts to address growing impatience and anger experienced by sections of our country’s population as a result of continued marginalisation, especially in key economic sectors of our country.” – SAnews.gov.za
