Deadline looms to register for matric exams

Pretoria - Matrics wishing to write their Grade 12 examinations at the end of the year have until Thursday to register.

The Gauteng Education Department said schools have been given registration forms for learners to fill in and return before the closing date. All learners doing matric this year, at public schools, independent schools and at Adult Education and Training (AET) centres have to fill them in.

"Full-time candidates, repeater candidates and AET Level 4 candidates will need to register now in order to write the National Senior Certificate examinations in October and November of this year.

"This is to avoid disappointment at the end of the year just before the final examinations, where some learners discover that either they are not registered or their institution is a bogus school," the department said.

Repeater candidates have been advised to register at their district office, where it will be checked if the institution they are studying through is registered. There is no cost to register to write matric exams.

Last year, the province had 35 000 part-time learners, which include learners wishing to improve certain subjects from their previous matric results or those learners who are registered through AET centres.
