Pretoria – KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi will on Friday open the first multi-million rand day care centre for senior citizens in Swayimane, which will improve the safety of elderly people.
The area of Swayimane made headlines across the country with the horrific incidents of the rape of four elderly women, aged between 82 and 94.
This prompted the department to build a day care centre, which will be a safe house for elderly and reduce the time they spend alone during the day, which makes them soft targets for criminals.
The department said more day care centres will be built throughout the province.
The official opening of the day care centre in Swayimane will be held at Nkululeko School Sports Ground in Umshwathi Municipality, Ward 12. – SAnews.gov.za
