Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has sent his condolences to the families of the two people, who died in the fatal multi-vehicle accident on the N12 in Alberton on Tuesday morning.

MEC Vadi also wished those who sustained injuries a speedy recovery.

“We want to extend our condolences to the families of the deceased. During this October Transport Month, we expect all drivers to exercise caution on our roads. This accident is unfortunate and should not be tolerated.

“We cannot over emphasise the growing importance of road safety. Our appeal is that all motorists and taxi, bus and truck drivers in particular exercise greater care on our roads and respect for the rights and lives of others.”

According to media reports, more than 20 vehicles were involved in the accident after the driver of a petrol tanker lost control on the highway, resulting in the death of two people on the scene, while several more sustained injuries.
