Condolences to E Cape accident victims' families

Pretoria - Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has sent condolences to the families of people who have died in road accidents, in the Eastern Cape.

On Saturday, South Africa lost over 30 people, as a result of two fatal accidents that took place in the province.

In the first accident, about 25 people were killed on the R408 between Butterworth and Willowvale when a bus driver lost control and overturned the vehicle, said the Minister.

The number of deaths in this accident might have increased since some of the injured were critical.

Minister Peters said more information of the crash is still been investigated and gathered by both the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and the South African Police Services (SAPS).

“Upon the initial findings and notifications of the next of keen of the deceased, more details on the carnage will be released to the public,” said Minister Peters.

In a separate accident, nine people were killed when a minibus taxi overturned on the R61 between Cradock and Graaff Reinet.

This incident, according to the minister is also being investigated. - SAnews.gov.za
